End come too soon. That’s a Wild Beasts record, but it also applies to this being my last wedding of 2017. 40 of them in total, and wrapped up with the extremely lovely Olivia and James at the extremely lovely RSA just off The Strand. My fourth wedding there this year and each an absolute treat to photograph.
Today gave me a very easy journey up to Waterloo (finally, after some absolute mayhem on the trains over the last few months) and time for a coffee and breakfast before starting. Cold again, but dry. Thankfully dry. That’s all I ask at this time of year. Olivia was busy with her Mum and bridesmaids, Shawn and Lulu. On the floor below James was ready to greet guests with his best men Tom and Stewart alongside, together with MC for the day, George. Arrivals saq cheeks kissed, coats hung, and smiles exchanged. Rosalind and her superb team at the venue were as note-perfect as ever, and the celebrant, Zena, was ready and present to deliver a truly lovely ceremony – a huge thank you to all of my colleagues on the day. You might be able to tell that James is a huge rugby fan. Possibly. It’s hard to tell from the table centres……
Outside for confetti cannons, and a cold, but perfect, walk with Olivia and James through Embankment Gardens and back down The Strand as the last of the late December light faded away. Warmth inside, of both the heating and friend varieties. Another first-class meal from the team at the RSA, interspersed with great speeches, before heading down to The Vaults for the rest of the evening.
So the season ends with the delights of a London wedding and a wonderful, wonderful couple in the shape of Olivia and James. Elegance personified, with a rich seam of class through the middle. They met when mutual friends arranged for a blind date and have been inseparable since that day. It seems fitting that London looked so right for them today.
Farewell 2017 then. I’ll be publishing my annual review of the year in the next couple of weeks with a look back at each wedding. Until then I’ll leave you with Olivia and James, and their story.
