Winter weddings. We always talk about snow, but it rarely actually comes. Today it did……and my word we had a cold day. Cold outside anyway, and pretty damn warm inside for Katy and Russ. My second wedding of 2017, and today at Russets deep in the Surrey countryside at Chiddingfold.
Katy and Russ found me through a previous couple, the lovely Chrissie and Will (and I’ll be seeing them again in April for a family shoot as they are now three thanks to the arrival of their first baby). Russ was an usher at their wedding and today Will returned the favour. This is a truly lovely group of friends and I’m so proud that I’ve been able to shoot two of their weddings.
Some early thanks – to Louise and the team at Just Jane for looking after us all so well as ever. To Tim and all at Russets for their help and effortless management of the day. To the outrageously talented and funny Jon Udry for his comedy-juggling act – believe me you need to see this man do his thing at least once.
But mainly to Katy and Russ. A couple who could not have failed to have the most magical day together. Russ’s military training counted for little as he saw Katy turn towards him at the top of the aisle. Those nerves gave way to the most tender embraces and looks throughout the day. A couple I quite literally had to ask nothing of, yet who gave me the absolute essence of who they are together.
I quite simply loved them.
They radiate what love is. That searing need to be with one other person. That deep yearning that only yields when they are present beside you.
As A.A Milne wrote – “If you live to be a hundred, I want to live to be a hundred minus one day so I never have to live without you…..”
Katy and Russ. You just smashed this. I could not have asked for more from you, nor asked for a better day for you both. Thank you for having me there, and you are surely beginning the most special life with each other. Smash each day together as you did this one, and you’ll be set.
This is your story…..
