Oh Surrey, once again you did us proud with another absolute smasher in this mind-bendingly hot summer. There’s no end in sight as I type…..and there was no end today with Kate and Andrew’s day of utter splendour. Three locations, two people, one purpose.
The day starts in Frimley, 30 minutes or so away for me, at the Frimley Hall Hotel. Kate was mid-prep along with her girls and folks. We watched another wedding taking place just below us, bravely deciding on outdoor food as the heat built. Next up was a first for me, and after passing through the well-armed soldiers on the gate, it was the magnificent Royal Military Academy at Sandhurst. Every British Army officer passes through here, and with Andrew being a Major it was a fitting location for the ceremony. More specifically we were in the Royal Memorial Chapel and it’s fair to say it’s a place to reflect on the sacrifices made by so many that we can enjoy the lives we have today.
Andrew was there with his Best Man, another Andrew, and his ushers, along with more serving officers from the Army, Royal Navy and RAF who formed his Guard of Honour. I should stop here and say a massive thank you to all of the bridal party for their endless help throughout the day. If you need something doing at a wedding then have this lot there. Kudos all. Kate arrived looking out of this world, and once Andrew had picked his jaw up from the floor, we were underway with a beautiful ceremony. Outside for a double walk through the sword arch (second so everyone could see) and off across to Old College for some group shots and a lovely session with just Kate and Andrew. Damn they look good together.
Next up was a cross-country blast to Goldaming and the Chichester Village Hall for the remainder of the day. Confetti, drinks, canapes, great food, great speeches and, despite their claims to the contrary, a damn fine first dance. The hall looked superb and much of that was down to Dahlia Hill who Kate + Andrew had tasked with the planning. Absolutely terrific job!
So Kate and Andrew. How to describe them together. Note perfect? Matched on every level? Made to be together? Meant to be The Ones?
All of those things. They’re gentle, warm, bright, funny, generous, softly-spoken yet with a fierce determination. I think they’re bloody great. I’m guessing anyone who’s met them will agree.
Thank you both so, so much. This is your story….
