Good Lord. Good. Lord. Lydia and Jonny, talk about smashing it……settle in for some Hunstile Organic Farm wedding photography.
This was one hell of a day. From start to finish, it had everything. Absolutely everything. Emotion, laughter, love, food, drink, the best people. Truly the best of days, with the perfect weather and some absolutely stunning light. It was a day no less than this couple deserved.
I’d been recommended to Lydia by the brilliant Hazel at Eden Blooms (a very close family friend) and jumped at the chance to join them down in Somerset. A massive thank you to Hazel, Shelly, Hannah and Callie for incredible floristry as always. Top, top work. The day dawned to sun and it stayed with us for the day, and then some. After a trouble-free drive down from Hampshire I was given the warmest of welcomes by Steve, Lydia’s Dad, as he opened the door with a huge smile. Inside the excellent Claire Bowring and Louise Alway were on hair and make-up duties, with Lydia and her girls right in the middle of it. I must say a massive thank you to Lucy, Charlotte, Chloe and Abi for being outrageously good fun all day (#goodlight). Also to Lydia’s mum and brother, Anne and Rory for adding to the warmth of welcome. Thanks to Jonny’s groomsmen, Owen, James, Mark, Nick and Rory.
From the house it was over to Kingweston for a beautiful church ceremony (and the silence of these Sony A9’s convincing another vicar to let me stand at the front – gamechangers!). All of the confetti, and an exit in a gorgeous MGB loaned by Hazel. Then the drive to the main event….
Hunstile Organic Farm. What a stunning venue. A massive thank you to Sarah and her team for looking after all of us so well. Nothing was too much trouble and smiles were everywhere. Some venues could learn a lot here! Superb food and drink, and for a wedding photographer, the perfect mix of textures and locations. It’s got everything. It gave us emotional speeches, laughter echoing around and a sunset to die for. Oh, and a surprise Vera Wang to the sound of multiple jaws hitting the floor. Followed by some flossing.
Music breaking news – Jonny coming out of retirement to join his old band, Longfellow. Two numbers after the first dance and the crowd went wild. They’re properly bloody good. Really. Check them out. Really, properly good……Owen, you’ve one hell of a voice.
It was a day about two people. Lydia and Jonny. They met at Uni, and have built a wonderful life together. The outpouring of love from their friends and family took my breath away, but despite having only met them that morning, I could see why. They radiate warmth, generosity, humour and love. They are people you want to get to know. To have a job that allows me to photograph this, to look into their day and their lives, and to give a document of it at the end is truly the best of jobs.
What a day. What a couple. To everyone there, thank you. It was a total blast.
