My word. My. Word.
What a day this was. A day with the quite fantastic Emily and Rob at the most beautiful home. A day where the sun shone hard. A day where the laughter echoed around the Hampshire hills….
So to begin, with thanks. Thanks to Emma and Hayley, fantastic bridesmaids and brilliant company. Thanks to all at Caper & Berry, superb catering, and especially to Mark who ran the day expertly. To Rob’s Naval officer friends. From Lieutenant-Commanders to Commodores, excellent work all. To Emily’s dad, Peter, for his warm welcome to his wonderful home and for his endless smiles.
A drive across Hampshire saw me arrive with Emily and her girls’ prep in full-swing. A warm day in temperature matched by the warmth of the people there. A short drive over to Hawkley where Rob awaited. The youngest ever Naval officer promoted to Commander, standing tall and proud as friends and family gathered around. Emily’s arrival. Sharp intakes of breath all around. Gorgeous seems barely adequate…..more about Emily in a moment.
Back to the house for the lazy afternoon to envelop all in sun and heat. Drinks flowing. Swims for the kids whilst jealous adults looked on. Wonderful food for the wedding breakfast. Great speeches from Peter, Rob and Phil. A surprise appearance from a singing waiter and waitress that went down a storm. Moments of tenderness amidst the dancing that followed.
And in the middle of all of this, a couple. A couple who found each other in the noise of the world, and who are the loveliest people you’d wish to meet.
Rob. Ludicrously bright. Made for the career he chose. He commands respect. We’re safe with people like Rob and his friends guarding us, that much I do know.
Emily. Beautiful. Funny. Vibrant. Alive. The warmest of the warm. A smile brighter than the sun.
A wedding I arrived at expecting much, and a wedding that delivered on every level. Every day like this is a privilege to be invited into. Thank you both. Thank you all.
This is your day….
