Autumn, you were stunning and you ended on a high with this absolutely brilliant day. Charlotte and Nicolas at the ever-beautiful Gate Street Barn. The colours clung on this year, those tones echoing through the day for the people gathered. Perfect for some Gate Street Barn autumn wedding photography.
A day that begins with Charlotte and her girls getting ready – thanks to Poppy, Sarah and Nicola and to Nicolas’s groomsmen, Luca, Raphi, Gaurav and Tal for all of their help and most excellent humour throughout the day. Sadly we missed the sun of the day before and thus spent the day dodging rain showers. November in England, ’twas ever thus. Despite that, and the chilly temperatures outside, inside was all about log burners, laughter, drinks flowing and a marriage cemented. A gorgeous Anglo-Italian ceremony, expert ushering for confetti between rain showers. Charlotte and Nicolas falling into one another for the couple session. A feel of Christmas coming amongst the warmth of the reception and speeches. Surprise fireworks, sparklers and a superbly elegant first dance.
I should thank my brilliant colleagues – Lisa and her team at Gate Street. My old pal Chris on music duties from Chess. Lorraine Milligan on make-up and hair. Bex from Blush Floral. Wonderful food from Pesto.
Charlotte and Nicolas are both lawyers, and met through work. It clearly was no accident for them to do so. They fit, like jigsaw pieces falling into place.
In my years loving cycling I once came across a quotation from the Italian humanist writer Renato Serra who was killed during World War One, and it reads thus:
“Del resto, viviamo, poiché non se può fare a meno, la vita è così.”
If I have the quote right it translates as “And we live because we cannot afford not to, because that is life.” Nicolas’s Italian background brought this roaring back, and it seems fitting to include it for two wonderful people embarking on that life together.
Charlotte and Nicolas. Immense doesn’t begin to describe today and I was beyond honoured to be chosen to photograph your wedding. Thank you, and this is your story.
