This is a love story.
A love story that saw over 50 Australians leave their island and head for ours. A love story that isn’t just about 2 people getting married, but is about whole families so interlinked that, as one speaker put it yesterday, it gave us a day that was ‘a little bit crazy’. After all, when that many people fly across the world for a wedding it can only be that. Everything came from an old lady named Margaret Harrison, a Winchester resident and Adrian’s grandmother, and families that might have moved continents, but knew that coming back to England was the right thing to do, even if that was a little bit crazy.
Lizzie and Adrian though, that’s the core of this love story. A couple who are absolutely and utterly home when they’re together. The looks that they gave each other throughout the day made the hairs on my neck stand up. Adrian’s speech was an absolute masterpiece and incredibly emotional. Note perfect throughout.
We started the day at the wonderful Hotel du Vin in Winchester for Lizzie’s prep and, I might add, a remarkably sweary one! That told me that the day was going to be a laugh because the girls were so relaxed. Maybe it’s the lifestyle in Australia but laid-back doesn’t even begin to describe it. The ceremony took place at St Peter’s in Jewry Street and from there Lizzie, Adrian and I had an hour wandering around the city centre. I love seeing the reaction of the public when a freshly minted bride and groom stroll past and yesterday didn’t let us down. With a city centre wedding I’m in the camp that says ‘show the wedding where it happened’ rather than try to find some sort of rural-esque setting. Well we certainly got that and I know that Lizzie and Adrian really enjoyed themselves. I think they’ve fallen in love with Winchester.
A quick stop to collect their guests at the Bishop on the Bridge before heading to the reception at The Chesil Rectory. It’s a while since I’d been there and the food is as superb as I remembered. James and his staff coped admirably and the evening quickly passed.
Lizzie and Adrian – a genuinely, genuinely lovely couple who made me feel part of their day from the off. Thank you and enjoy your honeymoon around Europe.
