I feel I should award prizes right off the bat. Firstly, ‘The World’s Smiliest Bride’ goes to the new Mrs C. Secondly, ‘The World’s Most Damn Likeable Groom’ goes to the other half of this very, very special pair, Andy. To hell with the rain that hung around most of the day. It mattered not.
I know, wedding blogs are full of ‘awesome’, ‘it rocked’ and other various hyperbole imported from our chums in the USA. And yet, and yet. This wedding was all of those things. Not because of the location, as wonderful as The Barn at Bury Court is. Not because of the guests, as warm and funny as the were. Not because of the eye-wipingly emotional speeches (step forward Jeff, Simon and Andy himself) Not even because of the superb bridesmaids and groomsmen.
This wedding was all of those things because of 2 people. Claire and Andy. Both are successful. Both have masses of good friends. Both have the things the lifestyle mags sell us. But until they found each other they didn’t have what they really needed. Now, finally, they’re complete. They have what they really needed. They have each other.
I was asked today whether weddings can be really enjoyable when you shoot them, after all you are working hard. Look at the the faces of Claire and Andy and tell me you don’t see why the answer is a resounding ‘Yes’.
Finally, before I shut up and show the pictures, an example of why I love both of these people. I was shooting a pre-wedding session up in London this afternoon and afterwards saw a missed call and voicemail from Andy. He was thanking me for what I’d done yesterday. He, the day after his wedding, was phoning me to say thank you.
If anyone should be dishing out thanks it’s me. To Claire and Andy.
